The front teeth can be laminated with
composite resin or porcelain to improve esthetics and may also provide
a reasonable alternative to orthodontic treatment for correction of
overlapped / crowded teeth, or gaps between front teeth. Malformed and
discolored teeth can also be veneered to give them proper shape, color
and contour.
Ceramic / porcelain veneers require two or more visits to the
operatory. The teeth are prepared in the initial visit, impressions are
made and sent to the laboratory. The laminates (empress) are inserted
in the second visit. These highly esthetic laminates wear less than
composite resin veneers and last longer.
Before and After Treatment
Composite resin veneers can be completed in a single appointment and
are more conservative as there is no tooth reduction required. However,
they need to be replaced after three to six years as they tend to
discolor and age over time.
